Trash Day - NEW DAY

Regulations with highlights

In the past, Universal Disposal has been the company to pick up items for Trash Day. Now that Waste Management has taken over, the date had to change. Waste Management abides by a certain number of hours per man per truck. Summer is a very busy time and adding in a City-wide pick up is not feasible to stay within allowed hours per week. It is the intention going forward, Trash Day will be the last Saturday of September. 


The City’s RESIDENTIAL curbside trash collection will be held on Saturday, September 30. Since this is a City program, we ask that friends or relatives from outside the City not be invited to bring trash for collection.

Waste Management will NOT enter private streets, apartment complexes or commercial lots.

To have items removed, residents MUST comply with the following regulations. Any non-compliant item will be left. 

  • All items must be as close to the curb as possible by 6:00 a.m. the morning of. 
  • No loose items. Everything must be boxed, bundled or bagged.
  • Lumber is to be cut and bundled in 48’ lengths, 40 pounds and no nails.
  • Carpet is to be cut, rolled and bundled in 36” lengths, 40 pounds.
  • Windows, glass and mirrors must be less than 3’x4’ in size and taped/card boarded. – If not properly secured, it will be left. 
  • Mattress and cloth furniture is to be wrapped in plastic.
  • All items to be within reason that two (2) men can carry.

UNACCEPTABLE ITEMS

  • Tires 
  • Household garbage – food waste
  • Dead animals
  • Hazardous materials
  • Paints/solvents
  • Propane/gas tanks
  • Car parts/engines/batteries
  • Dirt/rocks/sod/concrete/bricks and blocks
  • Brush/yard waste
  • Ashes 
  • Items over 5’ long/3’ wide/3’ high – weighing over 100 pounds 

If any of the items listed are found to be on the curb, it will be left.

ATTENTION City Residents age 60 & over:

Limited assistance is available to place trash out for collection. Please contact the Geauga County Department on Aging at: 440-285-2222 ext. 5520.
