Chardon Avenue & Canfield Drive Road Project

Construction Map

Beginning in May, work will begin on the CHARDON AVENUE and CANFIELD ROAD PAVEMENT IMPROVEMENT PROJECT.  The location of the work on Chardon
Avenue will be from North Street to Maple Avenue. The project will include the removal of the existing 4-inch and 6-inch cast iron water mains and replacing them with a new 8-inch ductile
iron water main along with new hydrants and ¾-inch copper service connections to residents. In addition, the existing sanitary sewer will be rehabilitated, including the repair and relining or replacement of existing 8-inch and 10-inch sewer mains along with rehabilitation of existing manholes and new service laterals. Storm sewer improvements will include the installation of 12-inch and 18-inch storm sewers, curb inlets and manholes. Once the underground work is completed, there will be full pavement removal and replacement along with new curbs and concrete drive aprons where new curbing has been installed. The proposed scope of work on Canfield Road will be base pavement repairs as needed and a complete 3-inch resurfacing from North Street to
the Maple Hill Subdivision. In addition, there will be the installation of aggregate drains at certain locations along the roadway for subsurface drainage and roadside ditch cleaning and re-grading as necessary. The Engineer’s estimate for the work to be performed on Chardon Avenue and Canfield Road is $1,816,700. Project construction is anticipated be completed in late November of 2021. A public service announcement and power point presentation was created with the collaboration of the Chardon Public Schools, Chardon Police and Fire Departments that reviewed project specifics and timelines. Included in this PSA is the phasing for the project and Maintenance of Traffic plan that will be implemented during construction. Please visit the City’s website to view the recorded presentation. Soon after the Chardon Avenue and Canfield Road project gets started, this year’s STREET MAINTENANCE PROGRAM will begin. The planned work includes “mill & fill” pavement repairs on Short Court. Over 30 streets in town will be crack sealed as is done yearly, while Woodbridge Lane and Crossing will both receive additional full depth concrete slab removal and replacement. Finally, Fern Way Drive, Hidden Glen Trail Phases 2a and 3, Moffet Avenue, Pine Hollow Circle Phase 1, Cherry Avenue, East King Street, Karen Drive, and Claridon Road will all receive a liquid rejuvenator application. This year the City will allocate $247,069towards sub-contracted street maintenance projects. The SIDEWALK INFILL and CONNECTIVITY PLAN for 2021 will focus on constructing approximately 8,475 square feet of new sidewalk along both sides of Center Street, from Washington Street to 7th Avenue. This $176,700.00 project will begin in the fall, unless NOACA Grant Funding is awarded to the City, which would postpone the project until 2022. Along with sidewalk infill comes Round #8 of the SIDEWALK MAINTENANCE PROGRAM. This year’s project is considerably less than past rounds and will include just Wilson Mills Road and Water Street from Cherry Avenue to both corporate limits. This project will be bid mid-summer and finish by mid-October.
